We honestly expected to have heard more about the system in the retail run-up to Black Friday. Impact: From our vantage point Nintendo has been very quiet on the 3DS XL front. Mario Kart 8 was released on the Wii U on May 29, 2014. It has sold 13.36 million units as of Septemworldwide. It is the first eighth-generation home console released. The Wii U is Nintendo's eighth-generation successor to their seventh-generation console, the Wii.
